Corneal Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Corneal Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a relatively new treatment in the field of Ophthalmology in effectively treating dry eyes that we are very excited to be performing here in the office. This procedure can be considered a true corneal and dry eye rehabilitation treatment where your blood is drawn in order to extract your stem cells in order to be used to make the ophthalmic drops to treat your dry eyes. Stem cells are the cells in your own body that have the capability of becoming any cell, making it an excellent method for treating and gapping areas of the cornea that were damaged resulting in the feeling and sensation of dry eye. By fixing and repairing the cornea we are able to greatly reduce or even eliminate the excess watering, the itching, scratchy, and overall dryness sensation.
Many people today are so use to using over-the-counter eye drops and ointments in order to treat there dry eyes but what many people do not realize is that these methods are simply a “band aid treatment” and do not actually fix the problem. The eye tends to water excessively, turn red, and itch because the eye is irritated do to corneal deterioration from not only the elements (i.e. wind, air conditioning, etc.) but from natural aging.
Not only can this procedure be done in office but it is very affordable and patients walk out of the office with a 4-6 months supply of these drops as well as an unlimited amount of artificial tears if the patients feels the need for them. The goal of this treatment is not to have people spend the money on fixing the cornea and their dry eyes and have them have to purchase eye drops at the same time. This treatment is so successful that the number of patients of who have asked for a bottle of free artificial tears is slim to none. Pts. Have seen significant results in the overall comfort and watering in as little as 5-10 days.
I have performed this treatment on numerous staff members here in the office as well as patients and have received Dr. Kristin Tarbet’s full support on the effectiveness of this treatment. So please see our before and after gallery
