What is Neck Liposuction and Rejuvenation?

Neck Liposuction & Rejuvenation Bellevue WA | Seattle

Liposuction and other forms of rejuvenation are used to correct problem areas of the neck such as saggy skin, loose muscles, and excess fatty deposits. All of these problems can be stubborn, resistant to diet and exercise, making patients appear older than they really are.

Your doctor will discuss your desires for change, as well as which procedure will produce those results most effectively. Liposuction is one of the most common techniques used; lasers, endoscopic surgery, and necklift can also be used alone or in combination with other rejuvenation procedures for optimal results.

Neck Rejuvenation Options

Several techniques of liposuction exist, which will be discussed briefly. In general, small incisions will be made either under the chin or behind the ears through which a cannula (a thin tube) is inserted into the fatty area. The cannula breaks up the fat to sculpt the area. The fat is then sucked out through the cannula, leaving the area permanently free of fat cells.

Super-wet technique: Saline and adrenaline are injected into the area, making the fat easier to break up and remove. The fluid also minimizes bleeding, damage and swelling in the surrounding tissues, as well as pain.

Tumescent technique: Similar to the super-wet technique but with larger amounts of fluid injected.

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL): A technique that uses sound waves to liquefy the fat after the injection of fluids. It has the same benefits as the super-wet and tumescent techniques and is useful for fibrous areas of the body.

Instead of or in addition to liposuction, your surgeon may also advise one of the following procedures to maximize the revitalization of your neck:

Endoscopic Surgery: Neck muscles are tightened through a small incision placed under the chin; it is not used to correct sagging excess skin.

Necklift: A neck lift is great for people with large amounts of excess skin. The skin is pulled back, the extra removed, and the skin is then sutured in inconspicuous places, creating a new tight, youthful look.

Your surgeon will help you to decide which procedure is best for creating the results you wish to achieve.

Neck Rejuvenation Procedure

Each of the above procedures differs in procedure and recovery time, but most are done on an outpatient basis. Generally, if you are undergoing a combination of procedures, the time of the operation and the time to release may be longer. Though patients are usually discharged and active shortly after the procedure, you will have to wear an elastic bandage at night for about two weeks. Some swelling and localized pain may occur. Most patients feel it is a small price to pay for their enduring results which make them look younger on the outside and feel better on the inside!

Who Is A Candidate for Neck Liposuction and Rejuvenation?

Ideal candidates for neck liposuction and rejuvenation are patients interested in improving the appearance of sagging or excess skin underneath the neck. This procedure can be beneficial for both men and women who are in good overall health and want to achieve a more balanced appearance on the lower half of their face. Although patients of any age can undergo this treatment, liposuction provides the best results on skin that still has elasticity, making patients in their 20s through 50s great candidates.

While you may be in overall good health, there are a few underlying conditions that may affect your candidacy for neck liposuction and rejuvenation. These conditions include asthma, diabetes, and high blood pressure.

What Are the Risks of Neck Liposuction and Rejuvenation?

Just like any other surgical procedure, neck liposuction, and rejuvenation treatments do come with a few risks that patients should be aware of. While common side effects such as swelling, tenderness, and pain while moving will occur during recovery, other more serious conditions such as blood clotting, infection, or excessive bleeding may occur. However, under the care of Dr. Tarbet, who prioritizes patient care with every procedure, any discomfort or risks can be managed and avoided completely.

What Is Recovery Like After Neck Liposuction and Rejuvenation?

The recovery process after neck liposuction and rejuvenation will vary from patient to patient. Some patients heal faster than others and can return to their daily routines the day after their procedure, while others may need several weeks to recover.

During recovery, patients may continue to feel swelling, redness, and tenderness, which is perfectly normal. Although pain is minimal after the procedure, it may take up to four weeks for patients to completely heal. Once the patient’s swelling has subsided, they can begin to notice an improved appearance on the lower half of their face.

How Long Will My Results Last?

Because liposuction targets the removal of fat cells, there is no chance that these same cells will “grow back.” This makes the results from your neck rejuvenation permanent. However, it’s important for patients to note that maintaining a stable weight is essential to preserving their treatment results. Significant weight gain or loss may alter the appearance of your results, but overall, patients will be able to enjoy their newly improved neck, chin, and jawline for a lifetime.
