What is Bellafill?
Bellafill is an injectable collagen filler used to treat acne scars and facial wrinkles, such as smile lines. It is the first long term to permanent injectable filler approved by the FDA and it represents a new chapter in non-invasive cosmetic treatments. The filler consists of 80% bovine collagen and 20% PMMA microspheres.

How is a Bellafill Treatment Performed?
The collagen in Bellafill® provides immediate volume and lift. Over a couple of weeks, the collagen is absorbed by the body while the PMMA microspheres remain in place and create a matrix that supports the production of collagen and connective tissue by your own skin cells for lasting cosmetic improvement.
Compared to traditional fillers, it is a unique product for two reasons. One, the body does not absorb its microspheres. Two, those microspheres help your body produce more collagen naturally.
Who Is a Candidate for Bellafill?
Candidates for Bellafill are people who want to correct acne scars and nasolabial folds or have seen a lot of facial volume loss. Volume loss can give you hollow-looking cheeks, hollow under-eye regions, and marionette lines. You are also a good candidate if you want filler results that last for more than a year. Bellafill is excellent at treating deep acne scars that come from cysts and other large types of acne.

How Long Does a Bellafill Treatment Take?
The procedure can take between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on the number of areas we are treating and how large they are. We can perform multiple treatments during one appointment. Right after the procedure, you can start seeing results. There is no downtime, so you can return to your life after treatment.
How Many Bellafill Treatment Sessions Will I Need?
Bellafill requires at least two sessions for most people, which we space at least eight weeks apart. Any further sessions are at each patient’s discretion. You can see the full results of treatment about three months after the injections since the microspheres need time to stimulate the body’s collagen production levels.
Is There a Recovery Process After a Bellafill Treatment?
There is no downtime after a Bellafill treatment session, but you still want to follow a few simple instructions. If you feel swelling or tenderness, you can use cold compresses to minimize discomfort. Do not touch the treatment area for at least six hours after injection, and do not massage it for at least 48 hours so that you do not displace the filler or injure your skin.
Until swelling or tenderness subsides, avoid sun exposure and other intense heat. We also recommend avoiding aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as well as vitamin E supplements for three days after treatment. You also want to avoid microdermabrasion, aesthetic lasers, and IPL therapy for at least six weeks.
What Are the Side-Effects of Bellafill?
As with most treatments, there are some side effects you may experience after Bellafill. The most common ones are swelling, bleeding, or bruising at the injection site, as well as skin redness. The treatment area may itch, and you may have lumps and bumps along with discoloration. Some people feel the filler under their skin. All of these side effects should correct themselves after a week or so.
Are Bellafill Injections Painful?
Each syringe of Bellafill filler contains a small amount of lidocaine to numb the treatment area. Certain spots, like the lips, are more sensitive, so we may also add a topical numbing agent if you feel discomfort. Most of our patients describe the sensation of the injections as a pinch.
