Trichiasis

What Is Blepharospasm?

Trichiasis is an abnormal growth of eyelashes on the lids. Trichiasis affects the overall comfort of the eye causing minor to severe eye irritation, redness, tearing, and a foreign body sensation. In the early stages it may only occur as a minor irritant but can become very uncomfortable over time.

This condition does not directly affect an individual’s vision but the side effects of trichiasis can have an impact on the visual acuity. Vision is only affected by the side effects of trichiasis if this condition is left untreated. Trichiasis can interfere with quality of life, it is important for people suffering to speak with a professional.

Symptoms of Trichiasis

As the condition progresses, symptoms occur frequently during the day. Many of the symptoms are dry eyes, red eye, foreign body sensation, abrasions, and tearing

“I love Dr. Tarbet and her medical team! They were all so honest, helpful, and caring. Her entire office from the front desk to the medical team were all able to help answer questions and get me prepared for my appointment. I have been batteling my lashes for years and this office has definitely helped improve my quality of life.” -Megan

What Causes Trichiasis?

Trichiasis occurs when the lashes are growing in towards the eyes causing them to rub against the ocular surface. Some people with Trichiasis experience having to pluck and pull their lashes multiple times a month causing eyelid discomfort.

Trichiasis Treatment

There are multiple different treatment options for treating Trichiasis including ointments, drops, pulling and plucking eyelashes, and/or epilation.

Diagnosing Trichiasis

Diagnosis of Trichiasis is based on information from the affected individual and the physical and lid examination.
