Trichiasis is an abnormal growth of eyelashes on the lids. Trichiasis affects the overall comfort of the eye causing minor to severe eye irritation, redness, tearing, and a foreign body sensation. In the early stages it may only occur as a minor irritant but can become very uncomfortable over time.This condition does not directly affect an individual’s vision but the side effects of trichiasis can have an impact on the visual acuity. Vision is only affected by the side effects of trichiasis if this condition is left untreated. Symptoms of Trichiasis

What Causes Trichiasis?

Trichiasis occurs when the lashes are growing in towards the eyes causing them to rub against the ocular surface. Some people with Trichiasis experience having to pluck and pull their lashes multiple times a month causing eyelid discomfort.
