Botox

Botulinum toxin injections, more popularly known as Botox, are used for a variety of reasons including medical and cosmetic conditions. In addition to being safely used for treatment of migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms, it is the most common cosmetic procedure in the United States. Botox injections are used cosmetically for the temporary treatment of frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet around the eyes, eyebrow shaping and even elevation of the corners of the mouth.

Clostridium botulinum Type A is transformed into a safe and therapeutic form we know as Botox. The procedure is quick and simple. Various options exist to numb the area and to minimize discomfort. Then narrow gauge, or tiny needles will be inserted directly into the muscle, and Botox injected. The Botox blocks a chemical called Acetylcholine which normally causes muscle contraction which causes wrinkles.

The procedure takes 10-15 minutes depending on the number of areas injected. Many women and men utilize their lunch hour to regain a youthful look through Botox. Results generally appear within 7 days, and may last up to 6 months. Recovery is immediate; there is no down time.
